Better Births a maternity review by Baroness Cumberledge, show the recommendations which focus on putting women at the centre of care while also acknowledging the need for maternity staff to work in positive, supportive cultures. The report focuses on several themes, including working across boundaries, multi – professional working and perinatal health.
Morecambe Bay Hospital came under many complaint and a high mortality rate, due to this the police and NMC were involved, which led to the report by Dr Bill Kirkup. Two main changes to come from this report was to get rid of Supervisor of Midwives and to promote ‘Normal Birth’ in the media.
